Chicago Shootout

Recommended Posts

The Chicago Shootout looks like it was a lot of fun to play. It's too bad that and no other regular shooting gallery is still at the park. I know there is the small shooting gallery in the arcade in Movietown which is fun, but I'd rather see a full size shooting gallery return to the park.

Oh they were lots of fun but sadly not too PC in modern times, especially in NJ. Also it looks like there is a Chevy small block V8 camshaft on the floor in that one picture, those engines weren't made until 1950, too modern.

They didn't close down the shooting galleries because they New Jersey was "too PC". They shut them down because it cost more to run them than they made. In today's world of hyper realistic video games people expect more than cans that pop up on jets of air, and when it takes so much just to maintain the simple effects of a shooting gallery, you just get guest complaints. It just wasn't worth it any longer.

They also has Coke and Diet Coke cans as targets too. Diet Coke wasn't introduced until 1982!

I like how the original Chicago Shootout sign featured miniature lights, like all the rest of the attractions in that area at the time. The miniature lightning really made that area.
