We're working on expanding the GASM spotlight right now. With our research for the book we found HUNDREDS of pictures of Scream Machine we had never seen before, some of which we will add, along with picture of the ride's closing and removal over the coming weeks.

Wow. I just heard the news. I'm coming into this one late, but I just wanted to add my lament for an old classic's last days. I still really enjoy the GASM, and like many here, it was a pretty big piece of my childhood. I feel a little bit at peace about it since I got to ride it again with my cousin a few weeks ago -- the same one that dragged me on it back in '90 (yes, I chickened out the first year). Still, I'd like to get on the ol' girl one more time... so, hopefully I'll get over there tomorrow at some point. Sigh.

They pretty much have to do something very visible in the way of removing the ride or they'll have a lot of people bitching about "I don't understand why they didn't keep the ride open!". Unfortunately a lot of the prep work for removing a coaster is invisible to people from a distance. That whole computer control room underneath the ride gets dismantled first.

I was at the park yesterday and got my last rides on it. After riding it 18 times that day, I learned to really like it and will miss it even more than I orignally thought I would. Goodbye Scream Machine 1989-2010.

Nostalgia is kind of creeping in on me. I'm actually sad to see it close. Of course, a ride in the back seat can easily remedy that sentiment.

(I just don't want to see them scrap the thing when a small Six Flags park could use it.)
