And the 2010 winners are....
We would like to thank everyone who participated in our 4th Annual GreatAdventureHistory.com Warner Awards.
As usual. starting with the rides, tied for taking first place for the Best Ride (Non Coaster) with 27% of the votes each were the Log Flume and Houdini's Great Escape. Bumped to second place and tied with Twister, the Skyride pulled in 12% of the votes. Third place was also a tie - the Big Wheel and the Buccaneer both had 5% of the votes. Houdini's Great Escape, which was absent from last year's ballot because it was closed except during Fright Fest really scrambled the results for this category.
In the Best Coaster wars, El Toro and Nitro, have taken the first and second spots for the fourth year in a row with 46% and 29% of the votes, respectively. Bumped from the top three spots this year for the first time was Kingda Ka which was surpassed by the Great American Scream Machine with 10% of the votes. Voters may have been sympathetic to Scream Machine as it was demolished mid-season.
Houdini pulled in huge numbers once again, this time in the Best Themed Attraction award with 42% of ballots, knocking last year's winner The Dark Knight Coaster to second place with 20% of the votes. Kingda Ka wrapped up the top three with 15% of the votes.
Once again this year it appears that one of the best parts of Bizarro's theming is its sign. Voters gave it top Best Attraction Sign honors with 44% of the votes followed by Kingda Ka with 24% and Nitro with 10%.
Best Upcharge Ride or Attraction award went to Dare Devil Dive again in 2010 with 51% of the tally. Great American Road Race with 24% and Eruption with 22% swapped places this year.
Nitro's nighttime venture into darkness took top honors in the Best Ride at Night category again with 32% of the votes. The Big Wheel's LED lights brought it second place with 20% and the special effects of Bizarro allowed it to rank 3rd with 17% of the pool. The top winners were obviously all rides that provided for a very different experience from day to night.
Like last year, Great Adventure's Best Original Ride from 1974 award was the Sky Ride with 37% of the votes with the Log Flume and Runaway Train ranking second (27%) and third (22%).
As for shows, Saturday Night Lights managed to pull in 34% of the votes giving it Best Show honors. That is quite an accomplishment especially since so many of the performances were canceled or delayed due adverse weather conditions. Team Tiger - Year of the Tiger ranked second with 32% of the votes compared to only 9% the year before. Glow in the Park slipped to 3rd place in its third season after being in 2nd place in year two, and 1st place during the parade's premiere year in 2008. Best GITP Float once again went to the Mr.Six parade finale piece.
Almost a given each year, Fright Fest was picked as the Best Event for 2010 with 61% of the votes. Dead Man's Party, a park favorite, was chosen as Best Fright Fest Attraction with 39%, surpassing both the Terror Trails (22%) and the Haunted Midways (17%).
In the themed sections categories, the Golden Kingdom once again ranked the highest with 42% of the votes taking Best Themed Section. Balin's Jungleland ranked almost as high in the Best Children's Section with 39%. Last year Balin's tied Bugs Bunny National Park but this year that section slipped to the #2 spot with 29%.
Best of the West Barbeque still reigns supreme with 48% of votes being cast for it in the Best Restaurant Food category and 63% of guests voting it the nicest in the Best Restaurant Facility category. In the Best Food/Snack Stand award, last year's winner, the Conestoga Wagon was knocked down to second place with 22% of the votes, overpowered by a new number one - the Johnny Rockets location near the fountain. Johnny Rockets was also selected as Best Name Brand Food establishment with 32%, up 3% from last year. Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs came in second with 24% followed by Panda Express (12%).
The Boardwalk was voted as Best Games center with 64%, blowing out the competition. Second place Dream Street Tents had only 22% of the votes. Best Games of Skill had two challenges tied for the top spot - Water Gun Games and the new for 2010 game "The Heist" both having 22% of the votes. Paint Ball ranked lowest with only 2% of the votes. Wouldn't it be nice to have that eyesore removed and open up Dream Street once again?!
Main Street Market continues to be 41% of our member's Best Shop, followed by Kingdom Traders (22%) and 17% for the Looney Tunes Shoppe.
It appears 2010 capital wasn't wasted on Hurricane Harbor's new Tornado slide - it was voted , Best HH Attraction with 34% of the votes, knocking out last year's number one, The Falls, to number two with 20% of votes. Taak It Ee Zee Creek took third place with 17% of the tally.
Top honors in the Wild Animal Safari Park once again included the African Plains section taking the Best Safari Attraction award with 39% of the voters followed by Bear Country with 29%. The Tiger's Lair section was bumped out of third place by Australia with 15% of the votes.
And finally, Best New Feature of Improvement went to the reopening of Houdini with a whopping 66% of votes. This impressive showing beat out the installation of The Tornado (15%) in Hurricane Harbor. And Guests being happy with the introduction of flat rides didn't stop there. In the Most Like to See Reopened category, top requests included the reopening of the Autobahn bumper cars (24%), Simulator Theater (22%), and Musik Express (20%). It is obvious we are starved for flat rides.
