As far as I know those are just head choppers for effect at the end of the ride. It's always fun to watch everyone duck as they pass under them!

I always thought they were a finish line when the ride raced.

I always assumed that they were part of the structure put in place to reduce the stress of the cars going into the flat turns back into the station.

You are again correct! They are head-choppers placed there to help folks "remember" to keep their hands inside the train and hold on because the last turn really requires you to hang on! Anyone notice how rough these turns have gotten over the years??? Used to be pretty smooth and fast... now it's painful, louder, shakier, and slower!

The poles at the end of the ride are for making standers sit down.
I worked at the ride in 1999 and 2000. We also lost the slow down brakes (inactive)before the poles since they have not been used since there were 5 car trains on the ride. Lots of the far curve on the inside was rebuilt over the winter in 99. The coaster 1 (inside track ) original drop and curve was visible for a time but not anymore , only in pics.

I can't ride this anymore. The last time I was on it was 3 years ago. It hurt my back so much that it hhurt to breathe. How does one stand up on a coaster? I never understood that. How and why?

I only assume that the pole things are to keep riders from standing up, that last turn is pretty hard since its not banked!
