Does anyone know how old the ride actually is, meaning when was it instaled at SF Great Escape?

Thats a good question. By the way was the centerpice visible from Nitro when it was put in storage? I remember seeing something like that in the boneyard...

The center section of the Royal Elephants is still located in the former Balin's Jungleland. The photo below was taken from the exit to Mortuary Manor during Fright Fest.

While examining the elephants this past weekend I noticed that there is a rubber gasket around their ears and they actually move. While there is an electrical plug under each elephant, I am assuming that is just used to trigger the up and down motion. Has anyone ever seen the ears move? I only rode this ride once and don't recall them moving.

I know that the original Dumbo in Disneyland had moving ears but that was short-lived.

I remember noticing the working ears on the Royal Elephants when they arrived. I don't know that they worked very consistently. This shot seems to show one ear up and the other down...

The ones at the bottom with no riders seem to all have their ears up.
