After just four short months of construction, Great Adventure opened its gates to the public for
the first time on July 1st, 1974. The timeline to build the park was so short that the western
area, then known as Rootin' Tootin' Rip Roarin', was still being completed.

Yup! Apparently, that bump was removed due to safety reasons.

The original parking lot was smaller, but it was also divided with wooded areas to break things up.
The lake often gets really muddy like that after it rains, and apparently there was a lot of rain just before opening day.

i saw an article where one of the log flume boats flipped over, was that due to the uphill bump?

From what I understand it was actually in the spillway at the end where it turns into the station. The water level was too high (which is why it now has metal rails and holes to drain off water).

Miss the different color gondolas. In the background, two of the best flat rides appear.
Delta flies you to...Atlanta, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, etc. When we walked along Dream Street or down by the lake to cool off, we'd always look up at the cable cars and see what city was listed underneath. Man, those were the days!

I have never seen a picture of orange columns, and the station it looks cool!!
The orange on the columns is just a primer coat of paint to get it from dark (tree) green to the muted green still seen today. However, at one point the Dream Street Station was painted pumpkin orange.

Amazing. I mean, absolutely amazing. One of my all-time favorite rides and one that was underrated even back in the day.

Wow i never knew that!! This was my dad's home ride, he oped it in the 80's he will love to know this was the most anxious ride to be built!!

It made me a little sad when we saw Wonder Woman Lasso of Truth at MM and noticed it still goes up as high as the Super Round Up used to.
