The 8th Annual 2014 Warner Awards Results
Many big thanks to everyone who participated in our 8th Annual GreatAdventureHistory.com Warner Awards. And the 2014 winners are....
After a two year run as Best Ride (Non Roller Coaster), SkyScreamer was knocked off the charts by the new for 2014 Zumanjaro Drop of Doom freefall ride bringing in 48% of the votes. The Safari Off Road Adventure and Houdini's Great Escape took second and third places with 18% and 10% respectively.
El Toro and Nitro proved to have staying power, taking in the first and second place honors for the eight straight year in a row with 52% and 31% in the Best Roller Coaster race. Third place was secured by the floorless Bizarro with 10% of the votes.
In a closer contest compared to last year, the Best Upcharge Ride or Attraction award went to Dare Devil Dive with 31% of votes followed by the Great American Road Race with 21% and Sling Shot with 14%. Last year's new entry, the Eagles Flight zip line dropped from 15% to 3%.
Great Adventure's Best Remaining Original Attraction from 1974 was reclaimed by the Log Flume (38%) which dropped last year's winner the Runaway Mine Train to third place with 17%. The legendary Skride came in second with 34%.
Once again Houdini was voted the Best Themed Attraction after being awarded 34% of the ballots. The enclosed Dark Knight Coaster landed 24% of the votes for second place followed by the Safari Off Road Adventure with 21%.
Also once again for the sixth year in row Bizarro's themed sign was the top winner in the Best Attraction Sign category with 52% of the votes followed by Kingda Ka's 14% and El Toro (10%) rounding out the top three.
For all those late night owls, the Best Attraction to Ride at Night was the all time favorite Nitro with more than half the votes (52%) followed by the Big Wheel with 14% and the new Zumanjaro Drop of Doom with 10%.
For the second year, Best Children's Ride top honor was awarded to the Road Runner Railway with 38% of the fans. It was followed by Air Safari (14%), and Bugaboo with 10%.
Like last year, the Best Show trophy goes to the park's biggest show Fish Factor with 45% of the votes followed by You Otter Know with 10%. Six Flags Dance Party was elected to third place with 7%.
Dead Man's Party was chosen yet once again as the Best Fright Fest Attraction with 34% of the votes. The Voodoo Island terror trail scared up 14% of the ballots followed by the Asylum with 10%.
The tally for Golden Kingdom was up 10% higher than last year topping out with 38% of the votes taking Best Themed Section. Second place was won again by Frontier Adventures (24%) and the Boardwalk rounded out the top three with 17%. The Best Children's Section was awarded to Bugs Bunny National Park with a whopping 59% of all the votes, followed by Looney Tunes Seaport with 31% and Safari Kids third with a sparse 3% of the votes.
The Best of the West Barbeque reigned supreme with 52% of votes being cast for it in the Best Restaurant Food category. Granny's Country Kitchen (14%) and the Yum Yum Cafe (10%) landed in the second and third spots. The same three eateries took the Best Restaurant Facility category although in a different order - #1 Best of the West Barbeque (59%), #2 Yum Yum Cafe (31%), and #3 Granny's Country Kitchen (7%). The Best Food/Snack Stand awards saw a new lineup of winners this year with the Main Street Pub (28%), La Cocina (14%), and Johnny Rockets near Safari Kids (10%). Last year's newcomer in Best Name Brand Food, Rita's Ice Custard, slipped from first place to third with 17% while Johnny Rockets nabbed first place with 31% and Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs with 21% taking second place.
A new category for this past season was the Best Season Pass Dining Plan Facility. The winners were the Best of the West Barbeque (21%), Granny's Country Kitchen (14%) and the newly remodeled and recently added to the dining plan Garden State Grill with 10%.
Best Games Facility was won by Studio 28 with 34% of the votes. This venue was recently enclosed and offered air conditioned game play which may have added to its popularity. It dethroned long time winner Boardwalk Games which slipped to second with 31% followed by Dream Street Tents (17%). Kingpin Bowl-a-Rama (21%), Ladder Climb (17%), and Three Point Challenge (14%) were the Best Games of Skill just like last year.
Best Shop went once again to Main Street Market (28%) with Flags winning second place (21%) and the Looney Tunes Shoppe (14%) in third place.
The top Best Park Event went to the Great Adventure History Museum with 59% of the votes, the July 4th Fireworks took second (14%), and the park's Concert Series took third place with 10%.
Hurricane Harbor's results saw quite a shakeup this past season with the Tornado winning first place with 17%, the Taak It Ee Zee Creek (lazy river) in second place with 14%, and the Big Wave Racer coming in third with 10% in the Best Hurricane Harbor Attraction race. Votes in this category were wide-spread proving that there is something for everyone at the water park.
Camp Aventura came in first once again with 17% of the votes in the Best Safari Off Road Adventure Attraction award. Tigris Asiana (formerly Tigers Lair) was second with 14% of votes and Afrikka rounded out the top three with 10% of the votes.
The 2014 Best New Feature or Improvement was Zumanjaro Drop of Doom with a huge 62% take. Sometimes it is the little things that matter - the return of the Log Flume water wheel came in second with 24%. It was followed by the expanded Season Pass Dining Plan location offerings with 7%.
Looking forward in our Most Like to See in 2016 category, once again a dark ride was at the top of most people's wish list (31%). This was followed by new shows package (17%) and a wooden thrill/RMC style coaster with 14% of the voters.
Typically with these results, we include an "In Memoriam" video of all the things removed during the past year but happily there weren't any removals during the 2014 season except for two minor stands which were replaced with new models. That is wonderful news and as a result we don't have a video to share.
