Like the flip of a switch, Memorial Day weekend brought with it sunny weather and extra high temperatures.  Even though last weekend was the season opener for Hurricane Harbor, unseasonably cool temps kept guests away forcing the water park to remain closed last Saturday and have an early closure on Sunday.  This weekend's weather looks very promising and if the turnout at the park today is any indication of the days ahead, it should be a really good summer kickoff for Hurricane Harbor.

Parts for the new Caribbean Cover children's splash area are being stored near the park's perimeter as the construction site is still being readied for its installation.

Based on the success of separate security check point and admission gates, the new setup at Hurricane Harbor today proved to be much more efficient than when the two processes were bunched together at the front gate.

One of the ticket booths has been converted to a security station for those working the checkpoint.

Earth moving equipment prepares the new Caribbean Cove site which seems much larger than first anticipated.  It takes up the entire cleared area neighboring Big Wave Racer, much of which will be a beach with some 300 lounge chairs.  Big Wave Racer is closed during construction of the new attraction.

Another new soda stand has opened near Hurricane Mountain.  While not exactly tropical themed, these stands look so much better than miscellaneous carts in the park.

Cabana Cove has great food but the nearby tables should only be allowed for diners and not people in the wave pool. The sundeck will soon serve as a dining area for a Macho Nacho Express food truck.

Pizza out - Blue Lagoon Cafe in.

The bottom of the lazy river was painted in the off season and looks great.  And what is that I see... surplus tubes!

The outside walls of several buildings have been replaced.

A new Cabana Cove sales rental booth has been added to the wave pool beach area.

Additional new fencing has been added near the Paradise Pizza and Grill area. A new employee building has been built backstage.

With the newly reconfigured main entrance, the boat Ruppel Jewel was removed from the scenery.  All that remains is its propeller and part of its drive shaft to pay homage to this opening year fixture.
