Juggles the Clown (Peter Cincotta) doing some club passing in the park.
  2. I think this clown picture was used in some promotional something for Great Adventure. According to the title, it was taken in October 1985. Juggles the Clown (Peter Cincotta) is in the orange wig. Fritz is on the top (Greg Gillette); Steve Athern is below Fritz; and a fourth clown is below Juggles.
  3. Juggles the Clown (Peter Cincotta) and some of the Shirt Tale characters are having some fun in a construction area away from the guests. There are always opportunities for silly pictures when you a clown. This picture was taken during the 1983 season.
  4. In this picture, Juggles the Clown (Peter Cincotta) is clowning with the band; pretending to play an instrument. This may have been taken during the 1985 season.
  5. This is Juggles the Clown (Peter Cincotta). He is wearing a yellow swatch watch. It matched his yellow juggling clubs. In this picture, Juggles is probably passing clubs with another clown because he is holding silver clubs. Clowning at Great Adventure was probably the most fun job in the world. It was our job to juggles and play with children (and adults) all day long.
  6. This is Fritz the clown (Greg Gillette), entertaining a small guest.
  7. This is Juggles the Clown (Peter Cincotta) balancing a club on his big clown shoe. Take a look at the big button he is wearing. It is a caricature of Juggles' face!

    Vokkos the clown

Vokkos (Eli Ganias) from August 16, 1983. Just some of the crazy, fun things we did while in the park.

  9. From August 6, 1983, Digger Mole and Loho the clown pose for a picture at the front gate. This was usually the first place we would go everyday. We were there at 10:00am when the park opened. You can see the fountain in the background.

  10. From 1983, it looks like a sparse crowd at the front gate. Nobody to play with. The long arms on this Shirt Tale character was a lot of fun.

  11. Digger Mole, Tyg Tiger, and Bogey Orangutang dance with the band at the Liberty Square Gazebo with Vokkos the clown. This picture was taken in May, 1983. We loved to dance with the band and dance with the guests.

  12. Here is one of our beloved Shirt Tale characters (in Shirt Tale Land) posing for the camera. August 6, 1983.

  13. Here is a colorful shot of the entire Shirt Tale cast with lots of clowns in the picture. We are shooting a commercial early in the morning. We discovered that shooting a commercial involves a lot of standing around and not much "shooting". Still, it was a fun experience for all of us. This picture was taken on June 6, 1984.

    Two Clowns Backstage

Here are two clowns in the dressing area just before they go out into the park. (We would say "on the street" meaning that we are going into the park where we are seen by the guests.) You can see the heads of two the the Shirt Tale characters in the adjacent room. This picture is from the 1984 season.

  15. Peter Cincotta transforms into "Juggles" the clown for another great day at Great Adventure. Clowns use greasepaint makeup that needs to be "powdered" with baby powder. The baby powder makes the make up permanent. Even if it gets wet, it won't come off. In this picture from May 1, 1984, Peter is putting on the baby powder with a powder puff. He will brush off the excess powder and he is ready to put on his costume for the day.

  16. The clowns would be out in the park for about an hour and then come in to take a 15-minute break. Sometimes there were other employees taking a break too (outside of the view of any guests). In this picture from July 13, 1982, Juggles sits down next to someone taking a break. She can't help but smile with a clown sitting next to her!

    Four Clowns and Friends

From August 23, 1982, this picture of four clowns and four guests is one of many pictures taken by a clown. We would often entertain guests and all of them wanted to be in the picture. So one of us would take the picture. The four clowns (left to right) are: "Arlo" - Howard Wahlberg, "Vokkos" - Eli Ganias, "Loho" - Marc Sheris, and "Gobo" - Chris Glancy.

  18. Two clowns at Great Adventure on July 13, 1982. This is a very rare picture of Boogala the Clown (Jeannie Comisky). This was the only year that she appeared at Great Adventure. Barn Knee the Clown (Michael Stevens) went to Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College in (I think) 1984.

  19. At the end of every show the puppeteers would stand up in the ship and wave to the crowd. People were amazed that there were only three people operating the dozens of puppets that appeared in the show. This picture was taken on July 13, 1982. From the left, the puppeteers are Angel Higgins, Sara Moore, and Karen Cascarino. Sara and Karen were also clowns at Great Adventure.

  20. This year the clown and body puppet dressing area was in a room in a large building in an employee only area. It was sort of close to where the Parachute ride was--which (I think) was being build during the 1982 season. The clown and body puppet dressing was in a trailer in 1981 and still at a different location from 1983 to 1985.
  21. As I recall, the Shirt Tales had just one show that they repeated (maybe) four or five times each day. I real don't recall what the songs were. I filled in for one of the Shirt Tales in a show one time.
  22. The costumed characters and clowns were never allowed to go on the rides. But we made an exception on the last day of the 1984 season. This picture was taken on October 21, 1984. Very few guests attended the park on this day and the clowns and characters didn't have many people to entertain. So we entertained ourselves! One the great things about working in a seasonal park was having a definite beginning and ending to the season. The last day of the season--like the last day of school--was always a fun time for us.

    Traveling Band

This group performed in the park in 1984. They would do a set for about 30 minutes at various locations (preferably in the shade) throughout the park. They were fun to watch and listen to. They would sing and laugh and take pictures with guests. The clowns like to dance near them when they were playing and we would get a crowd to form. Fun, fun, fun!

    A Clown Among the Flowers

Juggles the clown takes a picture among the beautiful landscaping at Great Adventure. This picture was taken on August 6, 1984. His colorful costume fits well in this setting.

    Juggles the Clown

Juggles the Clown (Peter Cincotta) began his time at Great Adventure as a body puppet in 1981. He began as a clown on September 1, 1981 and continued through the 1985 season. This picture is from August 6, 1984. Peter attended the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College in 1982. He continued to work as a clown for over 20 years after leaving Great Adventure.
