Busch Gardens Williamsburg: 355 ft tall Shuttle Coaster.

Supposed leaked documents give insight into Busch Gardens’ possible plans for 355-foot attraction
By Sarah Fearing -August 7, 2019

Documents obtained by a fan group of Busch Gardens Williamsburg indicate there could be another roller coaster — possibly a giga coaster — on the way in 2021.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg Fans, a group of coaster enthusiasts who, in the past, have predicted other rides based on documentary evidence, believe the leaked documents to be authentic.

A Busch Gardens spokeswoman said the park would not comment on its procedures on how to handle confidential information, including whether the park tries to find the source of the leak.

A request for confirmation on whether the documents are authentic was not immediately returned Wednesday.

The fan group has not published the documents themselves, but instead released an article with recreations of the plans.

BGWFans believes Project 2021, which obtained a 355-foot height waiver in June from the James City County Board of Supervisors, will be a roller coaster that uses the former station building for coaster Drachen Fire.

Drachen Fire was shut down in 1998 and later disassembled, according to BGWFans.

“… we’ve seen something that strikes us as legitimately extraordinary,” Zachary Strader, the group administrator, wrote in the article.

In the article, Strader wrote the document would be the best fake “the industry has ever seen,” if it turns out to be a sham.

If the ride is a coaster, it could be an “absolutely monstrous giga coaster” because of its 355-foot height waiver. The documents show trains will have four cars each in a two-by-two formation, according to the group.

Busch Gardens officials have previously said the coaster will be spirelike at the top and be about 10 feet wide at its highest point.

“Putting all of this information together, assuming this document is to be believed, it seems that we could be looking at a speed-focused, launched giga coaster of some sort debuting in Busch Gardens Williamsburg’s Festhaus Park area sometime in or around 2021,” Strader wrote.

Strader closed the article by imploring readers to remember park plans and rides can change during development.

Busch Gardens Tampa: S&S Screamin' Swing replacing Rhino Alley(plans filed) and possibly a new flat ride replacing Phoenix(rumored).

SeaWorld San Diego: Intamin Family Coaster similar to Wave Breaker at SeaWorld San Antonio.

It looks like SeaWorld Orlando is getting another coaster for 2021,  the project area is about 3.6 acres.

So, what could it be? It’s impossible to know with the information available at this point, but there’s already one interesting rumor going around. Earlier this week, a user named GACoaster on the InsideUniversal forms made a post about a rumored Wing Coaster project on the horizon. Even more interestingly, he mentioned that the new coaster would be located right at the front of the park as part of an overall revamp of the front gate area … The rumor is the entire entry experience would be reconfigured using part of the seldom used Bayside Pathway area and the new Wing coaster would soar over the revamped entry way (much like Gatekeeper at Cedar Point).” These plans definitely match up with that rumor, so I’m cautiously optimistic that this project could indeed be fore a new coaster!

I really like this direction Sea World has been taking of adding major coasters. I know Disney and Universal are supposed to be more than coaster parks but I always hoped 1 park in Orlando would have more than 2 or 3 thrill coasters.

The rumor for BGT and for SW Orlando is that the next new additions are possibly slated to open by Christmas 2020. I wonder if San Antonio's is as well? Christmas has become such a big money maker for the parks, having your new attraction open for Christmas might make a lot of sense.

SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment is really trying to beef up the thrills in the three SeaWorld parks and make them more like the two Busch Gardens parks. More emphasis on rides and less emphasis on the animals. With the distinct possibility that keeping marine mammals in captivity could be outlawed at some point in the not too distant future it gives the parks a better leg to stand on and a new identity. Just like Busch Gardens Tampa, I think animals will always be a part of the SeaWorld parks, just not the main focus anymore. At this point the name Shamu has been pretty much completely phased out of the parks.
